Beetroots are a strange vegetable: odd color, strange earthy flavor, changes your pee and poo color. It doesn’t seem to be at the top of the favorite foods list but it has some super powers that are definitely handy for being pregnant.

Beetroots are high in fiber which is helpful for keeping things moving. Which is important since pregnancy makes us prone to constipation and hemorrhoids.

It is also an excellent source of folate which is important for replicating cells and is known most famously for protecting growing babies from NTDs such as Spina Bifida.

Beetroots have the most naturally occuring nitrates. But to get the full effect of the nitrates you have to drink beetroot juice. All this combined leads to having more stamina, healthy blood pressure, improved circulation, and, just a wild guess of mine for you to think about, increased nutrient absorption in the intestines (how you’re wondering? We should chat unofficially, I have a ton of thoughts about beets and pregnancy).
