I don’t need a Doula
I have three children and have given birth four times. I never thought for a minute I needed a Doula. In fact my main goal was to limit how many people attended my births. My births were totally manageable, I loved and trusted my birth team, I birthed with confidence, and I felt a deep satisfaction afterwards. Totally beautiful births.
I didn’t need someone to rescue me from my labor pain nor protection from my care provider. I wasn’t even scared.
Then I became a Doula. And I learned all the different things doulas have to offer. All the little bits that could have been enhanced if I had taken it one step further. I’m a little annoyed with myself for not considering this before.
Now I know I never NEEDED a Doula but indeed a Doula could have enhanced my birthing experiences. And if I were doing it all again- I would have hired one.
